About Me

Montage of George McKnight

I'm a graphic designer/web site designer working full time for an Aberdeen based firm. I have been in the industry for approximately 10 years, but haven't always done this type of work. I have had a varied and colourful working past that's included working as a chef, detached youth worker (street work), timber preservation technician, but making the career switch to graphic design after tasting the infant joys of my first desktop publishing software and Photoshop whilst attending a full-time access course at my local college. There was no turning back as the passion to learn more simply grew and grew.....yum!

When I'm not working for the man, and not designing posters, leaflets, artwork or web sites in my spare time you'll find me scouring the coasts of the North-East of Scotland looking for that' juicy wave' that'll feed my love of surfing, the most beautiful sport that feeds body, mind and soul.

Work History

Currently I am working for an Aberdeen, Scotland based design firm, and have been there 3 years. Our main concentration is on the design and development of publicity web sites, intranets/extranets, and software development.

Prior to this I worked on a freelance basis for 2 years producing work mainly for print - brand development, stationery, business cards, letterheads, etc, producing the odd campaign.

For several years before I was producing work largely for the oil related industry, but with a diverse mix of other clients making up my portfolio. Some examples of which you'll find below:
Stolt Offshore, BW Group plc, Grampian Police, The Marcliffe at Pitfodels, Wyco, SBS, MachTen, Proserv, Schlumberger, Hunter Construction, Weatherfords, Grampian Country Foods, IADC, Ferryhill House Hotel, Dunavon Hotel, Noble Drilling, Marathon, and a number of smaller independent firms.

stuff Skills

Extensive knowledge of xhtml and css, with a smatering of javascript and flash, making good use of current web standards when it comes to the design and implementation of web sites. Photoshop, Illustrator and Fireworks play a primary part of what I do on a daily basis, which works out currently to be 98% web design to 2% print design. My concentration when working in my spare time is approx. 85% print to 15% web.
